Our Approach & History

Our Pledge to You
Pafra Adhesives pledges to continuously improve the efficiency and profitability of our customers’ processes thereby ensuring the maximum return for their investments in Pafra's products and technical services.

The Pafra Approach
We don’t just supply glue – we develop adhesives designed to run on your machines.

By understanding the science of polymer adhesives like PVA and EVA for commercial and industrial uses; we provide truly differentiated products to match your needs. This means that although two companies may be running identical machines, the adhesive we supply will be tailor made to run cleanly and efficiently in each ones unique environment.

This innovative approach means that your machines are more efficient, resulting in less down-time and better productivity.

As a result of this approach; Pafra Adhesives is considered to be at the forefront of technological achievement with an excellent international reputation for high quality adhesives serving the demanding print, packaging and converting industries.

Performance Testing
There are many factors that can affect the performance of an adhesive when it is running on industrial machinery. The obvious key requirement is final bond performance, but it is equally important for the adhesive to apply well on the machine without causing running problems.

The bond performance for a particular application is tested in a 'humidity and temperature controlled' environment to ensure consistency of test results. The grab time, setting speed and tensile strength of the bond are fully evaluated on a wide range of substrates, so that we are confident of the final performance of the bond under real-life application conditions.

Our belief is that your adhesive should become an integral part of the application equipment and machinery and should run 24/7 without causing problems. We have invested significant time and resources on the study of rheology (the study of flow properties) throughout our history. This has resulted in an understanding of adhesive performance and flow characteristics that is second to none. Based on this experience, which is applied to all stages |of research, production and quality control; Pafra has developed a system that produces adhesives, which not only have predictable bonding characteristics, but are also designed to perform consistently well in all types of application equipment.

Computerised Plant Control
Once an adhesive has been formulated for you, undergone line trials and\- is approved, you want to know that your glue will perform consistently from batch-to-batch. We know you cannot sustain variations in application or bond performance.

Pafra led the adhesives production industry in the 1980s by installing a computer-controlled |manufacturing plant to streamline production. We have now built on this (2009) by installing a |new advanced touch-screen computer system, which incorporates in-plant temperature and viscosity monitoring, so that glue batches are optimised without having to take samples from |production to check whether homogeneity has been achieved. This also speeds-up production and improves overall plant efficiency.

Every step can be viewed on screens, which means that one operator can control several mixes on adjacent mixing vessels and deliver every batch with complete traceability in an optimum production time.

Quality control is assured as raw materials are added to the mixing vessel from a dedicated tank farm situated inside the building. Every addition is monitored, checked and delivered via a series of load cells on the mixers.  Production is thus controlled throughout the manufacturing process from start to finish.

Quality and Versatility
It is this commitment to total adhesive performance that makes Pafra Adhesives different.

The utmost attention to detail at all stages of production and the highest standards of quality assurance throughout every stage of the manufacturing cycle, means that Pafra offers a range of adhesives, with quality and performance characteristics that make us recognised experts in the field of synthetic dispersion adhesives.

History
Pafra Ltd was formed in 1959 as an adhesives manufacturer and soon became recognised for its expertise in technical development of water-borne polymers (particularly PVA, EVA and acrylics) for paper-packaging and speciality carton-forming for food contact applications. Our technical understanding of adhesive science has led to a continuing development throughout our long history.

Our founder Max Kochman’s key philosophies of striving for the highest quality and performance products are as important today as when the company was established. Since those early days, Pafra has become well known for its scientific approach to product development. We now have a reputation for offering a comprehensive range of high-quality adhesives for the most demanding applications.
