Pafra Adhesives Ltd (PAL) is pleased to announce that the Company’s
full range of adhesive products is free from the use of any
phthalate plasticiser in compliance with the EU recommendation to
decrease,
as far as possible, the migration of di-isobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
from products made of paper and board, which among other
plasticisers, is used for converting paper and board. The particular
concern is use in food contact packaging, as recent studies have
shown that DiBP has a similar toxicological profile to DBP and can
therefore cause effects on reproduction and development.

PAL started a programme
of work to replace DiBP
early in 2007. Most of
PAL’s adhesives were reformulated on to an alternative plasticiser
and the bulk of those products were released into the range by the
summer of 2007.
The remainder of the
range was reformulated by the end of 2007 and products were released
during the start of 2008. That work is now complete and the complete
range is now manufactured on a new, alternative, plasticiser which
is made from green and sustainable sources. The whole of our
manufacturing site became free of phthalate plasticiser during the
early part of 2008.
