Do you have a 'fan apart' adhesive for use on NCR paper?

  No

Does your adhesive contain any latex?

We do not add either Natural Rubber or Synthetic Rubber Latex to any Pafra water based adhesives during their manufacture.

My adhesive looks thicker than it did last month and now will not pump through my distribution system. What has happened?

Water based adhesives can thicken on water loss through evaporation. The extent of thickening depends on the grade and ambient conditions of temperature and humidity. Viscosity also changes with temperature. We would recommend that you keep the lid on your storage tank at all times, and check the temperature of the adhesive. Ensure that the temperature of the adhesive cannot go too low, by insulation of the tank or siting in a warmer area of your factory.

Can I keep the adhesive outside?

Adhesives should be stored indoors, in a heated area.

How should I store my adhesive?

We recommend that our adhesives are stored between 5 - 30°C. They must be protected from freezing as this will cause irreversible damage to the adhesive. For optimum performance the adhesives should be at a temperature of 15 - 25°C.

Can I add water to your adhesives?

Our adhesives can be diluted with water but we would not recommend it. If you suspect that your current adhesive is too thick then contact us for advice  Contact Us. It is very likely that we have a lower viscosity version on our range to suit your needs.

My adhesive is out of date, can I still use it?

Pafra does not guarantee the performance of any adhesive if it has passed the expiry date.

Can I mix adhesives?

We do not suggest mixing different adhesive grades, as they may be incompatible and this could block piped systems.

Can you air freight the adhesive? Are there any problems with this?

Transporting water based adhesives by air can cause problems. Often the hold of the aircraft is not heated and the low temperatures can cause irreversible damage to the adhesive. Make sure that the adhesive is always stored between 5 - 30°C.

Can you help me speed up my production line?

Yes! We have many years of experience of helping customers improve their manufacturing efficiencies. This can be through advice on an adhesive grade that better suits your machine and line conditions, through to general advice on line layout and pumping systems. We are here to help. Please Contact Us to discuss.

Is a bulk storage system for adhesives a good idea?

It can be, but it very much depends on the number of different machines and applications you are running on your shop floor. Bulk storage systems are best suited to process where a minimum number of adhesives are used, since you require a tank for each adhesive. We can advise on your individual requirements and help to rationalise your adhesive use thereby opening up the possibility of bulk storage. An annual usage of 100 tonne per annum of adhesive is usually the minimum for the best use of a bulk storage system. We can also advise on tanks, pumping, metering and distribution systems through an engineering partner who specialises in this area.

How do I obtain technical data sheets and MSDS sheets for a Pafra adhesive grade?

Just phone, fax or Contact Us and these will be sent to you by return.

Disposal of Adhesives and Containers

How do I clean PVA adhesive from floors and machines?

If it is a large spill on the floor we recommend using sand or sawdust to soak up the adhesive. This can then be disposed of through your normal solid waste stream. Smaller amounts can be cleaned with hot water and detergent (eg washing up liquid). If this does not work then we would suggest a cleaner such as Ecosol 500. Please Contact Us for details.

What can I do with my old adhesive containers?

We pick up 1 tonne IBC's, 200kg & 125kg plastic drums and recycle them. Other sizes of plastic container and their adhesive residue can be safely disposed of through the local authority waste collection service or other registered waste carrier, being classified as Controlled Waste.

How do I dispose of excess adhesive?

Our adhesives are water based and non-toxic. They therefore present a low environmental hazard. You should label your Pafra waste adhesive "Water based PVA Adhesive - Controlled Waste" and contact your local licensed waste manager for disposal. If you require further advice in this area we are happy to help. Contact Us
