My adhesive will not bond PE coated board?
Many plain board grades will not bond a carton
with a PE coating. The PE board is more difficult than plain board,
but by using a high adhesion grade a fibre tear bond can be achieved.
We have range of adhesives suitable for this application
Contact Us. Fibre tear development is
slower on PE coated boards than plain board due to the low absorbency
of the PE surface.
Will my glued cartons stand microwaving?
We have a range of carton side seam grades that
are suitable for cartons that will be placed into a microwave
Contact Us. Using the incorrect grade can
cause cartons to 'pop open' during the microwave process.
Is my glue safe for food cartons?
We have a range of
adhesives that are suitable for contact with Foodstuffs in accordance
with the USA Code of federal Regulations, 21CFR.,Chp.1., Part 175,
Sub-Part B, Section 175.105 “Adhesive”. (F&DA)

Are your food carton adhesives suitable for
freezer use?
We have a range of carton side seam grades that
are suitable for cartons that will be placed into a refrigerator or
freezer Contact Us. Using the incorrect
grade can cause cartons to 'pop open' because the adhesive becomes
more brittle at low temperatures.
The polyester windows in my carton are not
giving fibre tear. Why?
Polyester films can be quite variable depending
on their source and surface treatment. If standard window patching
grades fail, then you require a grade specifically designed to cope
with difficult polyester films. Contact Us
My glue crystallises, is this right?
If when the adhesive bond is opened the adhesive
'cracks off' (sometimes known as crystallising) , this is a sign of
poor adhesion. This is because the grade used does not bond the
surfaces that are asked of it. A higher adhesion grade is required
that is still suitable for the end use and application.

Can I bond plastic windows to a PE coated
board?
It is not possible to use a standard window
patching grade for this application as there are no absorbent
surfaces. A different kind of adhesive is required for this
application Contact Us. This type of
bonding will normally take 24 hours to dry but the adhesive will hold
the window in place.
I have noticed that I get excessive adhesive
fling from my application wheel on my carton-converting machine. What
can I do to minimise this?
It is possible that you are over-filling the
wheel reservoir that can lead to adhesive coming into contact with the
side of the wheel above the scraper blade. We would recommend reducing
the level in the reservoir by either lowering the spout of the feed
bottle, or reducing the pumping rate from your storage tank.
Alternatively if you have a height sensor fitted, move this to a lower
position.
My wheel adhesive splashes at high speeds
At high machine speeds (up to 600m/min) some
adhesives will splash or mist, causing problems such as cartons
sticking together. We have developed a special grade that is ideal for
use in top or bottom pots, Contact Us and
will also run at high speed without splashing or misting whilst still
being easy to clean.
My jet adhesive dries on the nozzles and
blocks during stoppages
Nozzles can block due to poorly sieved adhesive,
but also because the adhesive dries on the tip. This causes the
adhesive to be either deflected or stop coming out of the nozzle
completely. Other causes could simply be poorly maintained equipment.
All Pafra jetting grades are sieved specially to
prevent nozzle blockages. If the cartons to be bonded are plain board
then it might be possible to change adhesive to a cleaner running
grade.
I have noticed that the side seam bond is
failing on my carton. When I look at each surface after failure, I can
see a white layer. What is happening?
Some boards have a clay coating to improve ink
acceptance and general appearance. If the clay coating is thick and
has been applied in several layers it is possible for this to split.
So when the two surfaces are pulled apart, the failure is not in the
adhesive layer but within the clay coat. You need an adhesive that
will prevent coat stripping. Contact Us
